RDS (RED DOT SIGHT) PISTOL COURSE
With the growing popularity of red dot optics on handguns, this course was created to meet the demand for practical, real-world training focused specifically on Red Dot Sight (RDS) pistols. Whether you’re new to red dots or looking to refine your skills, this course is designed to help you build speed, accuracy, and confidence behind the optic.
Students will be introduced to the fundamentals and techniques unique to RDS pistols, including efficient dot acquisition, tracking during recoil, and overcoming common challenges such as “dot hunting.” This course blends marksmanship principles with performance-based drills to elevate both novice and experienced shooters.
Course Topics Include:
• RDS fundamentals: mounting, zeroing, and optic selection
• Draw stroke and fast dot acquisition
• Target transitions and tracking the dot under recoil
• Finding the dot under stress and movement
• Co-witnessing with backup iron sights
• Malfunctions and RDS-specific considerations
• Performance drills to build speed and consistency
• Understanding parallax, dot brightness, and environmental impact
Recommended Equipment / What to Bring:
• RDS-equipped pistol with minimum of 3 magazines
• Holster (outside-the-waistband or duty-style preferred)
• Eye and ear protection
• Minimum of 300 rounds of pistol ammunition
• Proper range attire (long sleeves recommended)
